This story is based on a young girl by the name of Maddy Jane Nicol, who also died on her birthday. Of cancer. She was so sweet, and I wish I had made an effort to be her friend. Instead, 9 year old me thought she was contagious. I sang with the school choir at her funeral. We sang Somewhere over the rainbow. Which may have been her favourite song. She went by "Maddy Moo" and was adored by every teacher. Every morning, I would play on the playground, and she was arrive with both her parents, and her baby pug batman, complete with a leash and collar that matched his name.
