Jared has lived with the old witch Ninny as long as he can remember. He is abused and miserable and one day he sees two sister playing in the fields. He befriends the oldest- Rafi and they soon begin an unhealthy friendship. Jared teaches Rafi the magic the witch has taught him, and she in turn teaches him how to read.
But what will happen as they grow up and both have powers lurking beneath the surface more powerful than either of them could have imagined.
