At 16, Malory has been tending to her blind mother, Elizabeth, for as long as she can remember.
When resources grow thin, she, in hopes of fleeing her past, pretends to be a man to enroll in the Recruitment, working for the government.
She befriends Amell, a boy from her neighbourhood, finds within herself a passion for boxing and, above all, experiences peace of mind for the first time; she lives her best life 6 months into her enrolment.
What she doesn't expect is that she'll be caught in a nasty mess.
Consequently, when she doesn't feel like life is worth it anymore, Malory is tasked with saving everyone from the claws of the governors and she cannot back out.
Her only consolation is that when you're at rock bottom, you can't sink any further.

At first, there was no choice for me but to take upon my mother's status of 'slave'. My life changed into that of neglect and abuse. Then, after a few years, I was then forced to take the 'Mister's' place, to go and fight in the war... My life changed into that of trying to survive, not in just living as a man, but that of blood...And the wild, natural environment. Then, again, my life makes another turn...And I was forced once again to do something for someone who had treated me poorly in the past. I thought that my future might lead to something nice, considering I knew the person I was being forced to marry...But, he seemed to not acknowledge me at all... ...I think though...My biggest plan...Is that I want to make my life exactly that...Mine! Malory is an innocent girl, even though she goes through a lot of troubles, she tends to keep her innocence.
