"When the World Was Ending"

I met you when the sky was ash,
when shadows drank the dying light
the forest breathed, the branches thrashed,
and swallowed me in endless night.

You found me there, where silence grows,
where roots entwine like whispered vows.
The king of beasts had lost his prey,
but you, my love, made monsters pray.

The world began yet I had fled,
left your arms, our vows unsaid.
Oh, protector of the wild,
why did you let me stay exiled?

The woods remember what we swore,
the bond the fates could not ignore.
You were my heart, my home
yet now, in dusk, I walk alone.

when the assassin, Echo Salvataria, escapes the king of beasts, King Lucien, the vast forest of Vesuvia swallows her whole, and she meets Heath, the protector of the woods, and her mate

I locked eyes with it. Its amber gaze pierced through me, like it could smell my fear. There was something ancient in that gaze, something that stirred an unsettling feeling deep in my gut, a sensation I couldn't quite shake. Its claws scraped against the earth, long and curved, leaving deep marks in the fresh dirt as it moved closer. I could hear its paws thud against the ground, massive and deliberate, each step sending another shock of terror through me. The silence that followed was unnerving, heavy in the air, but then a loud crack shattered the stillness. It came from the forest-close, too close. The beast whipped its head back to the forest, quickly turning his whole body around so I was behind him. The shock from him turning so fast made me stumble a few feet backwards. The ground beneath us seemed to shift as it suddenly lunged forward, its muscles rippling with terrifying power. With one mighty leap, it vaulted over the rotting wooden fence, clearing the barrier effortlessly. The impact of its landing shook the earth beneath my feet. I staggered again, trying to keep my balance as I watched the creature, now free, pause on the other side of the fence. It cocked its head backwards meeting my gaze one final time. Then, without another notice, it darted into the forest, disappearing into the darkness like a shadow swallowed by night. I stood there, my body still trembling, staring at the empty space where the creature had been. The night had swallowed it whole. And though the sounds of the forest returned, soft and distant, the terror of that moment lingered. Was it still out there? Watching? Waiting? My eyes darted back and forth in the forest, trying to see it still hung around. I didn't know, but I couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter, this creature, was only the beginning. Her Hidden Half (War Songs of the Courts #1)

38 parts Complete

Fate has promised me the shittiest ever after... Death. Fortunately, I've never been very good at accepting bullshit endings. Echo Wilde grew up with a gift she never wanted. She could see the creatures that starred in both fairy tales and horror stories alike. Now, at nineteen, she's finally living her life the way she wants. That all comes to an abrupt stop when she finds herself torn from her life and thrown in the middle of the world she never wanted to be apart of. Navigating the Courts, she will have to find a way to survive where she is destined to die. But what if survival comes in the form of a vampire with dark eyes and an agenda; a common enemy of the Courts? #4 in Paranormal 02-22-2018 #5 in Paranormal 02-23-2018 #6 in Paranormal 03-21-2018 ⚠ Warning: Contains strong language and a crude protagonist. If you find any mistakes, please let me know. I've done the first edit, but I'm sure I've missed some stuff.
