Ndubuisi's 155th Sonnet
Shakespeare's *Macbeth* was in my syllabus when I was in secondary school. But *Macbeth* was just an appetiser, for I went on to get the complete works of his. It was as I was reading his sonnets that I tried to mimic his 14-line poems-and the rest is history. I did not simply read Shakespeare; I encountered him. In my "mimicking" of his sonnets, I learnt that a word could be stretched from its primary meaning to other "shades" of meaning. Poetry to me is like a pilgrimage, a path of mystery, a ritual that can transport the poet from where he is to where the subject of his writing is, where he achieves a lived experience. I deliberately chose a rhyming scheme of **AABB CDCD EEFF GG**, with which I wish to import an African voice into the sacred art of sonnet writing. ✨ *OnukaoguOkechi83 is a winner of the Shortys 2025. Drops Of Dew On A Lonely Leaf
"A tree stands all alone In the deep dark woods It has millions of leaves Each with different moods Some leaves shake, Some leaves shiver Some leaves fall, Some leaves quiver But I am the only leaf Of this lonely tree With millions of dew drops, All of them free So come, savour my dew drops Whoever you may be These dew drops are for you; A free gift from me" Hello there I write poems with simple words and deep emotions The name and the cover are kinda deceiving Most of the poems here are about heartbreak and depression I am planning on writing positive responses to my negative poems But hey Like my math teach told me "Too negatives make a positive." Or is that two positives...? Or two negatives....? Shakespeare's 154 Sonnets (Completed )
Shakespeare's Sonnets is the title of a collection of 154 sonnets by William Shakespeare, which covers themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality. The first 126 sonnets are addressed to a young man; the last 28 to a woman. The sonnets are almost all constructed from three quatrains, which are four-line stanzas, and a final couplet composed in iambic pentameter. This is also the meter used extensively in Shakespeare's plays. The rhyme scheme is abab cdcd efef gg. Sonnets using this scheme are known as Shakespearean sonnets. Often, the beginning of the third quatrain marks the volta ("turn"), or the line in which the mood of the poem shifts, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany.Completa
Alice in Wonderland Impossible Thoughts.
This is a collection of poems with the construction of "six lines . " They were written daily during my summer of 2012/13 ( southern hemisphere ) when I was first participating on wattpad as a regular. I posted six poems everyday with a crazy challenge of writing a ridicules number of poems over a short period of time. All the poems are inspired by the Lewis Carroll's classic Alice in Wonderland one of the first books I read as a young person, in fact as a teen. Before the age of 12 years my reading skills where non-existent because of learning difficulties, so when I finally did read a whole book right through Alice was it. So Alice hold's a special place in my heart and soul because of this fact. I hope you enjoy the reading of this failed collection as I do not think I have actually finished this challenge.
