Ashton's father, Adam, was killed by Juliana's father who was also a mafia king. Jules whose full name was Juliana was the daughter of Giovanni, Giovanni feared that Adam will be the most powerful Mafia King than him, so Giovanni decided to kill Adam.
To settle the matter Juliana had to marry Ashton when they grew up. But jules mom convinced his husband that it won't be a good idea because Jules was their only daughter, so both parents decided to take jules away to another country. Jules lived in America for 15 years, when It was time for jules and Ashton to marry Jules was long gone.
