Basil was flipping through the pages of her book. When she glanced up she noticed the light from her lamp created shadows that danced on the walls. She stopped and stared at them with a distant gaze.
CRASH
Basil quickly snapped out of being entranced by the flame in her lamp. She snapped her head to her green bedroom door. "Pops?" Basil called out. "Ahhhh!" Her grandfather cried out. Basil could hardly breathe in fear as she jumped to her feet to see what the commotion was about. She burst out her room and ran through the hallway to the living room. The window was smashed open, books, ink and shelves were scattered on the floor. Basil ran to the window while avoiding the glass. "POPS!" She cried out. She had her head out the window, her eyes stung and her heart was pounding. Pops was no where in sight and as far as Basil thought... Her grandfather had been taken.

A low rumbling brought the mother back to the present; she walked over to her husband and took one of the twins in her arms, a baby boy with jade green eyes and a tuft of black hair. He giggled as his mother nuzzled his neck. "James, I'm going to put Harry and Hailey to bed now," she said as she took the small girl into her arms too, she was heading up the stairs when she heard the front gate creek, she stopped for a moment to listen then shrugged it off.
