Death is a shadow that follows you through time.

Vera Langley thought she would live and die and be forgotten. As a pathologist she knew the limitations of life and the vastness of death and she wanted nothing more than to be forgotten when she was nothing but dust.

It was a thought she took solace in repeating. Until an accident takes the lives of everyone aboard a research vessel leaving Vera as the sole survivor.

Dealing with survivors guilt and the physical recovery of nearly drowning, Vera isn't surprised when she finds little solace in sleep. Each time she closes her eyes she finds herself back on the ship only it isn't the R.M.S Etruria she remembers.

In place of well-worn metal staircases are beautiful hand polished banisters and carpet covered hallways. The way the R.M.S Etruria had looked on its maiden voyage in 1893. At first it seems like nothing except a few harmless dreams but death comes for Vera each night in her sleep and she isn't the only one dying by dawn.

Between whispers in the dark that may hold answers and shadows down corridors, Vera must hold onto her sanity as she tries to cheat death and stop him from claiming more than her life.

"... So maybe I did do it!" he mumbled, looking aimlessly at the ground. "Do what? Jumped us away in time?" "Wha...? How did you know I was going to say that?" "Well, first of all, last night you had this bright light around you, and then, the the next thing I knew, we wound up here. Then, while you were passed out, I looked a bit around. And by all indications, this is the exact same place we were at when we crashed. It just looks different: no asphalt roads, no city lights, no cell phone signal. And third, I just saw a ship at sea, which looked like the damn Mayflower! So I figured it can only mean one thing: we are in the past!" ************************************************ As they are about to experience a fatal car crash, LA surgeon Diego Perez and his wife Louise get sent back in time to the 19th century. It turns out that Diego has the ability to time-travel, and though he can not fully control it, this is not his first time doing it. The two get sent to the timeline of Diego's youth, three months after his mysterious disappearance when he was twenty years old. Now, at a much more mature age, but with a still youthful appearance, he is forced to take things up where he left them, with an upcoming wedding to his pregnant fiancée and much unresolved business as the town protector, Zorro. But he has his modern-day wife with him, who has her own connections to this place and time, and things get more complicated by the day. Will he be able to figure out how to get his wife back home? Will their love endure the test of the time travel? Will they manage to navigate the rough waters of their existence in the 19th century? Word Count approx. 86000. Warning: mature content and mature language Disclaimer: Very loosely based on original characters in Zorro by Johnston McCulley, the one by Isabel Allende and Kaiketsu Zorro.
