The story begins at the Mikaelson Ball in Season 3, Episode 14 of The Vampire Diaries. It centers on Kol and Elena-and the unexpected, complicated way they fall in love. When Elena is suddenly sent one thousand years into the past, she finds herself in a time before the Mikaelsons became the Original vampires. They are still human. Henrik, the youngest sibling, is still alive. Everything is different-and yet heartbreakingly familiar. Elena wasn't sent back by accident.
