It's the classic. You are the normal young girl who had the heart to join the scout regiment, to make a change. You weren't top of your class, you weren't great at any of the areas you needed to be but you were determined to make do. In all honesty, expeditions scared the absolute shit out of you. That all changed when he noticed your fear of it all.
For the setting of this story, all the cadets that have joined the military are 19 not 15 and Erwin Smith is 29 ish. You are just freshly 20. Just to make it less iffy too lmao. Okay anyways!!!!
