Having been apart for a year, Lan Wangji misses Wei Ying and Wei Ying misses Lan Zhan.

Having parted on the fork of that road outside Gusu, Lan Wangji needed to set the cultivation world straight and Wei Ying needed to reacquaint himself with the world he had come to live in now. 

Lan Xichen was struggling at this point, working on his brother's residence, getting him to agree to security, attacks getting closer and closer to the new chief cultivator, and people coming alive and dying suddenly. Dividing Lan members between himself and Wangji already was leaving him thin. The last one had left him short of hand at Gusu. 

Things were hectic when his uncle decided that he too was going to leave him without support: retirement.

He was desperate for an extra pair of expert hands. 
So, he wrote a long letter, addressed to the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation for help.
