Gravel crunched beneath his feet as Damen Lucis shut his eyes and tried to imagine that his broken family wasn't his family and it was all a dream. He tried to imagine that all the years of his mom's ex boyfriends were fake and he had a happy family waiting for him to arrive. That all the years of abuse from the older men weren't real and that he would finally wake up today but he knows all of it was true. Ever since the divorce, his mom kept going with rich abusive men who would beat Damen constantly and his mother did nothing about it.
