Aarah doesn't want to be heir. At least, she doesn't think so. Aarah is one of the Witch Princesses of Selane, but she has not discovered her power yet, even though she is almost 18. Her twin Onyx, on the other hand, controls shadows. As the twins' eighteenth birthday nears, their mother must choose an heir for the throne. She deems it an unfair choice, as her heir must be able to control their power, so she sends Aarah on a quest into the unknown Dark Lands, where the exiles of Selane live. There, Aarah must brave what lies in the depths of the wild to force her power to show with an unclear outcome.
