The very first book in the "Waverly Stump and The 7 realms" series. 

Waverly is a twelve year old orphan of the Human race, whose half-Elven half-Dwarven foster father HalfHyde, has kept cooped up on his side of the lake; training and teaching her all that he can. She has none to relate with except for her best friend, Judson, a thirteen year old boy of the race of Shades. 

When Waverly repeatedly receives a disturbing nightmare about a woman who claims to be her mother, and is held hostage by a force of darkness, she sets out to the rescue. Judson, unwilling to let Waverly run off on her own, tags along, and the duo make a harrowing journey to the realm of chaos called The Abyss. There, Waverly learns of her heritage as a god's blood and subsequently receives a vision of an impending war that would supposedly obliterate all seven realms. Now, she must fight to see her world safe.
