Nyx Monroe grew up with terrifying tales of golden-eyed beasts with nightmarish fangs and murderous tendencies but as time passed, she forgot about them, convinced they were just scary stories. When her father, Azeil Monroe, is tasked with solving the murder plaguing the coastal city of Celacali, it's a chance at a fresh start.

However, Nyx discovers everything is not what it seems beneath the veneer of the popular tourist location, also known as the City of the Dead. Something dark resides there-death and carnage reincarnate.

Plunged into the city's shadows, Nyx stumbles into the open arms of notorious Orion, Kotori, Niko, and Kade-the boardwalk is their blood-stained domain.

They've been waiting for twenty-five years to exact their revenge for a debt long overdue, luring Nyx and her father back to where it all began. Whilst they distract Azeil with one murder case after the other, their focus shifts to Nyx.
