I let myself look in his eyes, seeing the way his unwavering gaze faltered instantly. His lips tightening together as he presses his temple to mine.

In a vampire-run world, Damon has had to fight human after human to protect himself from becoming a vampires pet, their personal object. He has won every single fight, piquing the interest of one vampire. Aleksandr, who is in a blood bondage with Lucifer, one of the most dangerous vampires out there. Growing bored of it constantly - as a game, he has Lucifer make a bet on Damon, and he accepts. Believing he'd never lose, until he surprised everyone by letting himself lose to protect another.
That instantly made Aleksandr have his first human pet, and Lucifer accepts despite his animosity since he would do anything for Aleksandr; yet will do anything to keep him to himself too. Because of that, he has killed all of his human pets because of Aleksandr getting close to them, but that's on purpose to make things interesting. In him killing his pet he spent millions on for Aleksandr, that makes their bond stronger. That was supposed to be the same case for Damon, until nothing Aleksandr does works on him - or so he thinks.
Making Aleksandr become more interested in him the longer the tension grows, Lucifer angrier because of his increased interest in his human pet, and Damon having to protect himself and his heart not just for him; but for the promise to his kind.
To not fall in love with a vampire, despite their taste for you.
