Second Chances: A Christmas Tale
Ao3 : Missfoodie2shoes (FULL CREDIT) This is my take on the classic Charles Dickens short story, A Christmas Carol. I know there are many other Harry Potter versions of it, but the ones I found were mostly parodies or comedies, and I wanted to take a more serious look at the story. I really enjoyed writing this, and any feedback, good or bad, is welcome. I wrote this many years before, after Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came out, but before Deathly Hallows came out, so this would not be considered canon beyond HBP. I feel it still holds up well over the years, though, and thought I would share it with you all. Since this is the first Christmas since Alan Rickman passed away, I am dedicating this story to his memory. I will post once chapter a day, so this story will finish posting on Christmas Eve day. A Christmas Carol is the most famous, heart-warming and chilling festive story of them all. In these pages we meet Ebenezer Scrooge, whose name is synonymous with greed and parsimony: 'Every idiot who goes about with "Merry Christmas" on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart'. This attitude is soon challenged when the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, returns from the grave to haunt him on Christmas Eve.
