Second Chances: A Christmas Tale
Ao3 : Missfoodie2shoes (FULL CREDIT) This is my take on the classic Charles Dickens short story, A Christmas Carol. I know there are many other Harry Potter versions of it, but the ones I found were mostly parodies or comedies, and I wanted to take a more serious look at the story. I really enjoyed writing this, and any feedback, good or bad, is welcome. I wrote this many years before, after Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came out, but before Deathly Hallows came out, so this would not be considered canon beyond HBP. I feel it still holds up well over the years, though, and thought I would share it with you all. Since this is the first Christmas since Alan Rickman passed away, I am dedicating this story to his memory. I will post once chapter a day, so this story will finish posting on Christmas Eve day. A Christmas Carnage
The beloved characters from Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" return to solve a mystery. A grown-up Tiny Tim hunts Ebeneezer Scrooge's killer through the murky streets of 19th-Century London, leaving bodies in his wake. Follow Tim as he navigates the city's seedy underworld, aided by a grizzled Scotland Yard investigator and a wisecracking trans-woman prostitute. The Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, is the beloved story of a miser's transformation. Ebenezer's First Noel shows what happened to Ebenezer Scrooge before and after Jacob Marley and the three ghosts visited him. In this retelling, Jacob sends Ebenezer back to his days when he was in love with Belle for one last chance for love and to save Marley from his torments. Pursued by the arch-criminal Professor James Moriarty, Ebenezer and Belle and their children Catherine and Heathcliff find refuge and make their lives in mid-nineteenth century Australia. Using themes and characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H.G. Wells, and H.P. Lovecraft, Ebenezer's First Noel ties up all the loose ends but remains true to the spirit and style of Dickens's classic.
