It has been more than a year since Alina Oretsev (formerly known as Alina Starkov) has tried to shake off the events that destroyed the Shadow Fold and that stripped her of her Sun Summoner's powers. The events that took his life - the life of the Darkling, also known as Aleksander Morozova, The Black Heretic or The Shadow King.
Alina is now married to Malyen Oretsev, which she such desperately wanted some time ago. Everything seems to be going like she once wished, allowing her to nearly forget about her being the former Grisha and about all political conflicts constantly tormenting Ravka after the Darkling's death. But Mal pushes her to have a child with him and Alina is only 19 - which means she's not ready for it. The constant pressure from her husband awakens the unknown feelings, evoking shadows that the former Sun Summoner had been so disgusted with not that long ago.
But he's dead, so that's impossible... isn't it?
However, there is something that Alina hasn't known yet. After killing Aleksander Morozova by her own hands she unnecessarily kept a knife which had taken his life. It was a huge mistake. She even unnecessarily hid this knife as her greatest treasure...

*****************
Will jealousy release the dark part of Alina's nature? The darkness is alluring, the power is even more tempting. Soon Alina will understand what she once rejected and whether it was good choice for her. Especially when the Healer named Katya Nemerov decides to remove her from the path of her possible happiness at all costs...

A year after Alina Starkov tears down the Shadow Fold, she is finally able to settle into her peaceful life. There is no more war with Ravka. The Darkling, once her enemy, is now a loyal, protective husband, and a father to their adoptive daughter, Amelia. But all things must end. The Sun Summoner learns that a time of peace can become a time of chaos and upheaval in the blink of an eye. As quickly as one war ends, another can emerge. Alina must protect her country as Queen while making sure that the Darkling doesn't revert to his old villainous self, or else all they have built will come crashing down. This is a sequel to The True Saint, but can be read separately. The world is based off of the Shadow & Bone Netflix series/ books by Leigh Bardugo. Book cover art by: misticarts on tumblr ________ |PREVIEW| ------------- The Darkling raises his hand in a motion I know all too well. Behind him, a monster ten feet tall, made of shadow, forms in a menacing stance, ready to carry out his silent orders. I thought I had seen the last of his nichevo'ya a long time ago when we were on opposing sides of the war. I shake my head. "No. No, what are you doing? Wait!" I send the Cut barrelling at the monster. It dissociates into nothing only for another one to take its place. Again, I send the Cut through the abomination, but it was only a diversion. Another one forms behind me, capturing my arms to prevent me from summoning. It holds me above the ground. I kick and scream, but it covers my mouth with its long, slender arm, the other holding me securely to its chest. My breath is labored as I use all of my strength to fight it. It is futile. The Darkling approaches me, stroking his fingers across my cheek as a way to comfort me. It is hard, however, to comfort someone if you are the cause of the distress. "I will do anything in my power to protect you, my Dear Alina. Anything."

Characters and universe created by Leigh Bardugo. ___________ Once I have calmed down, he lets go and leans back in his chair placed beside me. The Darkling just sits there and stares at me, observing me the way he always does. Moments pass, I become frustrated and snap at him. "Well? Are you going to yell at me? Hurt me? Tell me how you are the only one that I am equivalent to in my eternal life, so I should rely solely on you? He raises an eyebrow. "All of those would be sufficient options, but no." I scoff in response before asking, "then... what are you going to do with me?" He reaches out and traces the features of my jaw and face. He replies, "well that will depend on you." "Me?" I ask warily. He moves a strand of hair out of my face and continues to caress my cheek. "Yes," he exhales. "I don't want you to hate me, Alina. It is up to you to decide whether you want me to be your villain or your husband." #1 darklina 10/24 #1 shadowandbone 12/22 #1 fantasy-romance 2/24 #1 darkling 8/24

After killing the stag and forcing the amplifier on Alina, the Darkling decides that letting Alina and Mal go might be a better investment. After all, the boy is only mortal, one day he will die and Alina will return to his waiting arms. "I'm not going to kill you, Mal. I don't need to. Time will do it for me" ________________________________ "All right." She did little to hide her shock. "What?" "You can go, Alina." She narrowed her eyes and opened her mouth but he cut her off before she could spew whatever distrustful comments she had planned. "You and the tracker can go and live out your merry little lives. Have your 50 years, maybe even 70 if you're lucky, and when your fantasy crumbles around you, you will see that only you and I remain. You will return to my waiting arms." ________________________________ !!! There will be SPOILERS both for the show AND the books (this includes elements from the KoS duology). !!! This fic will deal with heavy topics: war, violence, loss, grief, death, and manipulation will all be explored. There are mentions of SA and explicit dub-con scenes. The relationship between Alina and Aleksander is very much toxic throughout the story and it will for the most part remain toxic. Moreover, nothing in the story is meant to be taken at face value, rather, themes and actions were left morally grey, so to be explored and dissected by the reader. If these are themes that will trigger you or make you uncomfortable PLEASE do not engage. ༶•┈┈ ♛ ┈┈•༶ "You really want me to shy away like I used to? Like your little mouse?" I pierce him with every word. The Darkling stares back and for a while the only thing that moves in the room are the shadows. "Alina, you misunderstand me. I have waited centuries for someone like you. Centuries, Alina, alone. I do not need to answer your question. You know what I want." Please don't say it, I think. "I want you to be my Queen, Alina." He pushes off from his chair and I shiver in my seat as he pauses by my side. The Darkling's hands find my chin and he holds my head tenderly with both hands. My power sparks at his touch like fire to kindling and I have to clench a hand in my dress skirt to keep control. He makes sure my gaze is entirely on him when he says, "And you know you will." I shake underneath the pressure of his words and he strokes my chin to calm me. Fine, but he has no idea what he is asking for. I shall be a queen, but not his. And he will regret the day he forced me back at his side like a dog. Aleksander, I think, bow. ༶•┈┈ ♛ ┈┈•༶ It starts with burst of light, like it did in the beginning. Every time a Sun Summoner dies, there is a burst of light. With every flashing death, Alina can feel a strong hum of power return to her. The Shadow Crow (A Shadow and Bone: Season 2 Fanfiction) by WinterPhoenix123
19 parts Complete
A few days after Alina and I escaped the clutches of my brother, the former Ravkan general of the Second Army, Aleksander Kirigan, we parted ways. I went with Kaz Brekker and his gang of thieves, affectionately nicknamed the Crows, back to Ketterdam, while Alina Starkov and her friend, Mal Oretsev, left for other lands beyond the walls of Os Alta. In Ketterdam, I made a name for myself, aiding Kaz and the Crows in all manner of criminal behaviour, forgetting that I was ever the younger sister of the Black Heretic. But I've lost everything I've ever known. I don't know where my mother or my dear friend Genya is - sometimes, this new life is unfamiliar and uncomfortable, especially within the tight, damp spaces of Ketterdam, this sprawling criminal town that seems so big and yet so small. Or within the base of the Crows that I sometimes call home - or the feelings that I seem to feel for Kaz Brekker. Kaz and I still don't understand each other, and I don't think we ever will. Alina and Mal set off across the sea, and from what I heard, they were going in search of the second of Morozova's creatures, the Firebird. Alina hopes that with the help of the Firebird and the Stag as Grisha amplifiers, that she might be able to take down the Shadow Fold for good. I know that my brother, Aleksander Kirigan, did not die that day in the Fold, and that one day he would come to exact his vengeance upon his lost Sun Summoner and all of Ravka. As Kaz prepares to unleash fresh hell on old foes, and as Alina prepares to hopefully end the terror of the Darkling once and for all, I myself am preparing for a war on both sides. A war to protect my newfound friends and family, the Crows, and a war to protect my people, the Grisha.
