When Hualani Alamimo Gayle's mother dies of cancer, the 22 year old blind girl is forced to leave her home in Honolulu, Hawaii to go live with her only living relative with whom she hasn't seen in years. This living relative happens to be her father's nephew, Samuel Uley, and his now pregnant wife Emily, in La Push, Washington.
