The Emperor reigns supreme, or so he wanted everyone to believe. But cracks, some ancient and others new, threaten to destabilize the Empire.

Despite the abuse he suffered at the hands of the Crown Prince, Jun had never considered rebelling against the Emperor until he saw something he shouldn't have seen. In the darkness, he made a choice that would forever change his destiny. Running seemed the best option, but perhaps he should have chosen death.

Bolin was teacher Oyun's Hand of Fate and would do anything the banished clan leader asked. His mission seemed simple. Kill the heir, give the young lord a choice, and return to his teacher. But escaping with Jun through the vast Empire from the Imperial Academy to Oyun's sanctuary proved more complicated than either man could have predicted.
