AN ANCIENT LEGEND Imhotep, High Priest of Osiris, lusted after an Egyptian beauty whom no man but the Pharaoh was meant to touch. Punished for his blasphemy, Imhotep was mummified and buried alive-cursed throughout all eternity. A DARING AND ROMANTIC ADVENTURER Wang Yibo, dashing Chinese American and legionnaire, is in Egypt looking for a good time. His discovery of the lost City of the Dead is a fluke-but to British librarian Xiao Zhan it's the archaeological find of the century. The city contains all the treasures of Egypt and possibly the secrets of life and death. Leading Xiao Zhan odyssey deep into the Sahara isn't exactly easy money, though, as Wang Yibo must dodge death traps, escape the jaws of man-eating beetles, and even duel a hook-handed mercenary. And just when he's caught his breath, a long-ago evil returns from the grave-with a taste for human flesh.

Wang Yibo was born with everything - wealth, power, and a legacy that could crush anyone who defied him. But the one thing he never had was a heart to love. And so, when the woman he'd waited for betrayed him with a poor student, Yibo's pride shattered. What began as humiliation soon turned into vengeance, century's most cruelest one. Xiao Zhan never expected his love to cost him everything, but it did. His freedom, his dreams, even his right to decide his own fate were all gone, replaced by the suffocating control of a man who wore authority like a crown and cruelty like a second skin. Seems like a cliché plot, right? But what if revenge was never the real reason? What if the truth behind Yibo's wrath ran deeper and much darker than anyone could imagine? And what if every move, every heartbreak, every ruin had been planned from the very start? Well, sometimes, love isn't what's written in the story - 'It's what's buried beneath it.'
