Annie Cresta is so nervous to start her new school year. Girls and boys from all districts attend and she couldn't be more excited. Things at her old school didn't turn out so well, she was called "insane" or "mad" because she couldn't get over her trauma from the hunger games. Annie has to go to a school with actual other districts. She knew no one. She would be the new kid.
