Ang nakasanayan ko ng ina at tagapagpatnubay ko habang andito ako sa bahay-ampunan. Ang Home of Love. Tama. Sa ampunan ako lumaki. Wala akong mga magulang. Ulilang lubos na ako at sa mga puder ng mga madre ako lumaki. Lumaki ng responsable at may takot sa Diyos na siya namang nagiging gabay ko para maging mabuting nilalang. "Amethyste!" narinig ko ang sigaw ni Sister Mylene. Papalapit siya sa akin at may hawak siyang maliit na baul. Nakita ko na nagka-titigan sila ni Sister Marie na siyang ipinagtaka ko ng lubos.

"Ingatan mo ito." Pinilit niyang hawakan ko ang maliit na baul na ibinigay niya.

"Ano po ito?" binuksan ko iyon. Kwintas na may itim na bato sa gitna at may mga butas na maliliit. Sa tiyansa ko, higit sa sampung maliit na butas at sa gitna noon ay ang malaking puwang.

"Iniwan ka sa tapat ng bahay-ampunan na ito na bitbit mo iyan. Amethyste. Iyan ang susi sa lahat ng katanungan mo. Ikaw ang may hawak ng landas mo. Hanapin mo ang sarili mo." ngumiti sila sa akin. At muli.. Nagpaalam ako.
