Raina was a girl, born with royal blood. Her sister, Octavia, ran away when Raina was just born. There was no one that knew why she left, nor where she went. When Raina turns 23 her mother becomes sick. With less time on the clock, her father, Carlo Aperté, decides that Raina has to take her place on the throne as the new queen of Aperturés. But along the way, she discovers dark secrets,murders,ancient air-looms, and reasons to give up the throne. With no one to trust, Raina runs away, just like her sister did. While walking though the dark forest, and passing the ancient old rivers, Raina comes to the conclusion that the further she goes, the closer she gets. Without knowing where she is, or where she's headed. The forest begins to lock her in. When Raina returns to the castle 3 days later, she soon finds out that it hasn't been 3 days, but 4 years. While Raina hasn't aged a year, the boy she despised the most, Riff, was now older then her. With her mother dead, and the mystery of how she was so long gone. She finds out new secrets, new mysteries, and new reasons that have to do with her sworn enemy, Riff Archer.
