Kathryn Lucious hates her position as Princess of the Underworld. She is independent and some, her father, would say she is pig-headed. Kathryn is the only born daughter of King Hades Nikolas. Her mother was indeed something special. Under such extraordinary circumstances, the only female offspring of the God of the Underworld was born. She is different than most royal teens. She doesn't mind helping out with the physical labor around the castle. In fact, she's done most of the work of caring for the hellhounds herself. The kingdom is a safe haven for all manner of misunderstood creatures. The hellhounds are used not only for personal protection but to alert King Hades of any suspicious activity.

Kathryn returns home after a trip to the nearby forest, her father springs a surprise ball shortly after she turns sixteen. As if that wasn't bad enough, he also introduces her to two other teens around her age. They are her suitors and are scheduled to fight for a wondrous prize. Her hand in marriage.
