Sadie McDaniel is a 12 year old girl who lives in the small mining town of Coalwood, West Virginia. She experiences a tragic loss early in her childhood, and she is raised by her mother, Charlene, and her grandmother, Eliza.
Eliza is no ordinary grandmother. Throughout her life, Eliza has utilized the forest and the Appalachian Mountains to provide her with what she needs. Her bond with her granddaughter continually grows as she shows Sadie the way of "Granny Magic" and utilizing the tricks and traditions that have been in their family for generations.
