Essence Aaliyah Mcadams is a young African American in South Carolina during the times of the 21st century. She is experience what it means to be in her time and to be her color. She must see the differences that she experiences as a Black Woman versus a Black Man. While exploring her story the controversial topics of Love, Family, Knowledge, Power, and Religion constantly comes up. She feels as if her skin is being peeled back one layer at a time. New things are being discovered within her soul. Essence does her best to remain herself but she sees that times are becoming different just like her forefathers so it's time for a change but the question is what will it be.
