Aleida

In the lowlands, along the banks of the dreadful Thunderbolt river, there lies the sleepy little village of Allis. On the odd occasion, a rumour will trickle down the river and into the village, telling of strange, winged creatures living high up among the mountain peaks. The village will glance up at the mountains with a shudder. Mothers will usher their children inside well before sundown, and farmers will double-check the locks on their storehouses. But in an alley somewhere, a soft tune might be heard. It would be the tune of an old man, humming of times long past. A tune which recounts the legends of the winged folk whose existence has long since faded into obscurity. He will look up at the mountains and sigh, and the mountains will sigh back.

Aleida lives with her grandfather and sister in a small secluded village high up in the Aurian mountain ranges. Faced with her sister's ailing health, she is compelled to leave her homeland against the wishes of her grandfather in order to seek out a remedy.

Disaster strikes and she soon finds herself cut off from everything she's ever known and thrust into the world of the groundlings who live in the lowlands far below her home. Alone and completely out of her depth, Aleida is forced to conceal her true identity and search for a cure on foot.

Unbeknownst to Aleida, Fate has much more in store for her than she could ever imagine.
