During the war, the wizarding population took a sharp decline. The Ministry of Magic created a law forcing all 17-year-old wizards and witches to be married within two years of their 17th birthday.

Ministry of Magic decree 47207572; The Marriage Law ~All subjects have 4 months to get married and then 5 months after that to get pregnant. ~Tests have been done on all subjects between the ages of 17 and 27. ~All subjects have been matched with other Wizards/ Witches or muggle families that know of the wizarding world ~Most subjects are paired by who they will be most successful reproducing with. Both subjects have gotten physically injured fighting with each other, to the point where Mrs Granger-Weasley was hospitalized. No wedding has been consummated to my knowledge. I believe that their previous relationship is keeping them apart. I have decided that they will renew vows within the month. Whether that will work out we shall see... All Hermione wanted to do was to return to Hogwarts and finish her education with a bang as Head Girl. After that, she had her whole life sorted out. She would work things out with Ron, work at the ministry, and become Minister for Magic one day. The universe, as usual, had other plans. Draco certainly wasn't expecting McGonagall to pick him as Head Boy but Harry Potter declined and as per usual, he was the second choice. Unsure what the people back in school had in store for then after all the Death Eater business they were involved in, he returns to Hogwarts with his friends to finish their education anyway. What can be worse than knowing that someone else is deciding whom you are getting married to. I kept aside the letter from the department of marriage law enforcement. There was another page which read: Decree for the marriage law. Note: The newly wed couple has to follow these decrees in order to complete the marriage law. After the war, the magical population has decreased and the ministry of magic has decided to bring in a law enforcement of marriage law. In which the dept of marriage law enforcement will select the partners for them. The age groups will be from 18 to 40 years old. I. There is a name of the person with this letter who have been selected and deemed as a perfect partner for you. The said person is also notified about the same. II. The pair in question has to get married in 15 days from receiving the letter. III. The newly wed bride is expected to get pregnant in a year after the marriage is consummated. IV. As per the marriage law, the couple has to consummate their marriage only after the said couple falls in love. V. If the said couple fails to do so then they will face the consequences. VI. The couple has been prohibited from using any contraception. Any type of contraception, magical or non-magical is strictly prohibited for the couple who are in wedlock by new marriage law. ***************************** Mildred is trapped in the loveless marriage of marriage law.
