It's been two years since the defeat of Zhan Tiri. Varian spends peaceful life in Old Corona and occationally travelling to the capitol to see his friends and for his duties as a royal engineer. After everything that had happened Varian can't but feel little out of place and uncertain of who he should be. Then he gets an old journal from his father as a 18th year gift.
Varian leaves Corona to find himself. He tries to find out what happened to his mother, who suddenly vanished in her research journey.
Varian makes new friends and few enemies on his way to find the truth about his mother.

Harmony discovers that she is also connected to the trials somehow and accompanies her boyfriend on the journey, as the trials require both alchemy and magic working as one. Along the way, the two face hardships, learn valuable lessons, and make friends and enemies, both old and new.

This is my take on the idea of a Varian spin-off series of Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. The AU was presented to Disney by storyboarders Kay Ritter and Anna Lencioni who took a liking to Varian's character and decided to create a story for him in his later years; detailing the adventures he might go on and the friends he makes along the way.
