Chala was invaded by the Berg almost two hundred years ago.
It was home to a utopian union of three sentient telepathic species - the Halveri, the Falmari and the Saltari. These three races are still united as one but only for the sake of war - a fight for their survival in the face of complete annihilation by the Berg.
Caden Cha'hal is the last son of the Chalusian Imperial Line, once destined to be a ruler, he is now a simple soldier in the Chalusian war machine.
Ishtara Sauriel is first commander of The Prime Collective and has been sent to planet CZ127 on a mission to ferret out the Bergari's secrets. The Berg have slated the planet to be terraformed in mere solar days, under exorbitant penalties, before allowing it to be handed over to the Prime's Office. The question Ishtara was tasked to answer was why? 
Why, in a centuries long hostile takeover of a Berg tech corporation whose properties and projects spanned galaxies was CZ127 so important? What secrets were the Bergari hiding?
