After humanity was ravaged by a mysterious plague and a brutal war, civilians were rounded up and placed into underground cities for protection.  7 cities were constructed in total, all with different names;  Quarn, Alden, Esme, Rocque, Zephyr, Alma, and Eloise.

Siblings Rowan and Cal have known no other life than the one inside Quarn, being shielded from the wonders of the outside world.  Rowan dreams of going to the world above,  it just to satisfy her own curiosity, but to ensure her little brother gets to lead a better life than she has.

But, as the plague begins to resurface and claim countless lives, Rowan's will and ideology are put to the ultimate test.
