Esmerella Firn's, a young girl from the Glass Plains, life is turned upside down when she unwittingly saves the young prince of the Kingdom of Aelich. The Kingdom has been ruled by the Embers, inhabitants of the Ember Ranges, for the last 2000 years. But when Ess is entered into the Imperial Trials, she is determined to win and bring glory back to the Plains, even if it means betraying people she loves along the way.
