Michelle wasn't viewed as a normal teenage girl. With her being isolated as a child up to her 10th birthday she didn't get to experience the real world till much later in her childhood. Her father Dr. Matthew Norman was an incredible scientist who partnered with April's dad. After the terrible incident Dr. Norman continued Dr. O'neil's work. When Michelle was born Dr. Norman let his obsession become worse. He began doing small tests at first on the baby. Amara begged and pleaded him not to and it worked. She got him distracted with another animal while she was able to take care of her child but with Matthew out of a job and Amara being the only bring in money at the moment she had to go back to work as soon as possible. As soon as Amara went back to work Matthew began testing more and more on Michelle. Amara was so stuck on work she didn't notice. She hoped and believed her husband would respect her wishes. Unfortunately she discovered quickly that she was wrong. He kept her isolated in her room and only gave her minimal interaction with another human. Amara was enraged at her husband when her daughter turned into a cat in front of her and ran to the kitchen. Matthew was ecstatic that all his hard work actually paid off. Amara had no choice but to follow Matthew's rules for the safety of her daughter and others.

A general rule of thumb for any type of story telling media is to not have more than five main characters. Often, these five are separated into categories, the leader, the smart one, the hothead, the Woman, and finally, the dumb one. While the others are given chances to express their talents and skills in carefully planned arcs, the dumb one is often neglected. No, the dumb one is meant to entertain, he makes a mistake and you are to laugh at it. He is not allowed to have a moment of realization, not given the chance to prove himself, not allowed to be more than the dumb one. A joke. The unwilling jester meant to make his blind peers look smarter, clever, at the expense of his pride and shame. Michelangelo, youngest ninja turtle, is Doing Just Fine. He means it. The teasing words of his brothers doesn't feel like scalding water against his skin, thank you very much. He Doesn't feel hurt when they brush him off as childish and immature, when they refuse to listen. And he Absolutely Does Not need any help because he doesn't have any problems. He doesn't feel bad. He doesn't really feel anything at all.
