Pretense is about a young Prince named Mekhi who is the only survivor of his kingdom falling. He manages to escape the fate of everyone else in his kingdom and he stumbles upon a small, remote village in the desert. There he is taking in by an older man named Hafeez. Hafeez, is struggling with the loss of his family as well, and the two reside with one another, allowing each other to heal.
Years go by and both Hafeez and Mekhi, now called Amir to keep his true identity hidden, have are forced to flee their tiny village order to escape a group of radicals that are searching for the lost prince of the fallen kingdom.
In fear that this group will want to kill Mekhi, Hafeez takes it upon himself to keep the boy safe; but what if there's more to the radicals motives for seeking out a dead boy? Just what exactly do they want with Amir who is no longer Mekhi. After all, Mekhi is nothing more than a pretense- someone lost to the past and nothing more than a dead boy.
