This is a sequel to The Great Lady of Alkion. 
It takes a look at how life in Alkion progresses after the death of the king and Fabian is suddenly thrust to the throne.
There is focus on the reign of Seti and Astrid. They face challenges as monarchs and as a couple especially when Seti is forced into marriage to a Nubian princess who is not as good as she seems. The new problems tear Astrid and Seti apart and the love they once held for each other begins to dim.
