A Sense of Belonging - An Oliver & Company Fic

Living as a pet in New York City in the 80s is rather tough. Either you get adopted and raised perfectly, or you get a consequence that falls below the perfect and lush style pets expect: mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and yes, death. All of those are unimaginable for a pet to believe, and something they wish to avoid.

In this case, it's neglect for this poor dog.

Diana is an adult Cocker Spaniel who has been through a lot with her owner, Glen Mitchell, and her fellow pet Peter. At first, it was only days where Glen was too tuckered out to hang out with her and him. Then, it developed to him bringing home some sort of drink that he claimed would make him forget about the stresses of the day, and then he'd act very out of character and behaved erratically. It got worse, to the point of her and her friend being neglected and mistreated by him and becoming despondent.

One day, a despondent Diana finally beaks under the pressure and runs away from home, leaving an equally despondent but uneasy Peter behind to see if Glen changes. Over the next few weeks, she finds herself meeting a certain mixed-breed terrier and joining a group of canines under the wing of a man driven to pay his debts off via crime. Not only that, but something tells her that these are the ones. The ones who will show her the true meaning of family, and finally give her that sense of belonging she always longed to enjoy.
