A short story about Sofia, who lives alone in the middle of nowhere. She's trying to cope with a terrible loss and go on with her life, when one morning strange footprints appear in the snow. They are not ordinary footprints. Who made them, and why?

Erik Svärdling is no ordinary teenager, but he is still shocked to find himself thrust into a world of strange creatures and old magic. He is confronted with the living truth of his country's history as he finds out that the Norse myths are real. He must learn the ways of magic to stay alive in this new and unforgiving world he's discovered, but he must do it away from everyone he's ever loved. Will he be able to cope with his new existence and stay ahead of his enemies? This is the first novel I've ever written from beginning to end. It's only a first draft, but I'm planning on going back and fixing it up as soon as I have the time and energy. Where am I? The little girl sat up, snow crunching under her as she does. She stands up and pats the snow off of her coat, then starts walking in a random direction, leaving tiny footprints in the untouched snow as she does. After hours of this, she sits down, exhausted, and starts to cry. "Why am I alone? I don't even know how I got here!" She mumbles to herself, her tears almost freezing to her face. The events of this story is fiction, but the backdrop is based upon a real scandal in modern Sweden (without any supernatural elements in the real-life events, sadly enough). The facts behind this fiction is provoking and interesting in and of themselves, and will be provided in the end as a series of sources. The fictional elements are, however, strong enough to carry the book on its own, even for those who are uninterested in the true crime aspects.
