He touches his forehead to mine, fingers stroking my cheek.
"This is so fucked." He sighs. "We can't keep going."
I search his downcast face, his eyes. "Shinazugawa-sama... what do you mean?"
"I can't give you what you want... the life you'd want." He pulls his head back, looking me square in the eyes. "My life is killing demons. That's what I do. People who do what I do-they die."
His jaw tenses. "If you get involved with me, one way or another-you will get hurt."
I can sense how much he means these words. I look over at his arm, that's draped over his knee-the one I sutured a month ago, now with a long bright scar running down its length.
"I already hurt, Shinazugawa-sama." I say quietly. "It's nothing new to me."
