In a world where each human has a reaper watching over them from the day they were born till the day they die, Kier, a reaper from the underworld, is assigned an odd human that has a soul her cannot understand. Kier begins to understand the way the human world works and then begins to understand why the human world is hated by the other reapers in the underworld.
