"You're his cousin." It was difficult to keep the bite from her voice, but Lucien's eyes were boring holes into her brain, Lucien's fangs were ripping her skin to shreds and she couldn't escape the hole that was seconds from swallowing her. Something in Luther's expression changed at her statement while she battled memories and feelings. "Blood does not determine relationships, Ms. Alamilla." Another hole yawned open, clawing Mariana under. She clawed back, closing her eyes, prying her mind from the dark place that it began to descend. This place was dangerous, introducing a side of Mariana that she did not like in the slightest. The fight for her mind paused as Mariana wondered exactly who she was. She wasn't sure she knew anymore. She wasn't sure that she cared what they thought. There was only predatory vengeance and revenge left in Mariana's mind. Opening her eyes, Mariana glanced over at Lena, sweeping her eyes over the woman once before returning to the Council. She knew there was pain and fear in Lena's face, fear for what Mariana might become and pain for what had caused it. Mariana didn't acknowledge those feelings, hardly noticing they were there at all. Instead, Mariana put all of her focus into the dangerous grin on her face and the next words she said, "Good. If you had turned out to be anything like him, I'd have to kill you too." The Council paused, leaving a stretch of uncomfortable silence in its wake. "As for my powers," Mariana continued, "I don't have any as of yet. But when I get them," she huffed a laugh, "I'm going to make sure Lucien knows exactly how I felt that night and make him suffer." After being brutally murdered by a vampire, Mariana is thrown into the same world with a new perspective. Supernatural beings exist and always have. Mariana's killer happens to be one of them. And now so is she. The only thing on her mind is revenge. And she will never forget who made her suffer. Lucien. *Book cover pending*
