Oakville Public Library held a short story contest where we had to write a story based on an image prompt. This years prompt was an image of the HMCS Oakville memorial. I ended up winning first place and wanted to share it with all of you. Hope you enjoy!

1917 (Part One of the Darwin series)
The year is 1917, and the Great War is slowly drawing to a close, but the end can't come fast enough for the two nations from the Southern Hemisphere, exhausted and ready to go home and to try to resume a normal life. Kyle knows he's close to breaking. Even hearing the name of that cursed place aloud causes him pain, and he knows Avery feels the same. Then comes that stupid smiling American, with his talk of heroes and aide. And Kyle can't help but start to feel differently about Alfred. But developing such feelings in the middle of war can be a dangerous thing.Complete
