Janel survived abuse and neglect as a child at the hands of her adoptive parents. When they died, she lived in the woods, just trying to survive day to day. One day Ian Sheer, a singer/songwriter notices her and her strange ways of trying to connect with humans. He befriends her and quickly finds himself falling for her. But how can they have a relationship if she can't even hold his hand? Hug him? Be hugged by him? Kiss? Be intimate in any fashion? 
She desperately wants to overcome her fear of human touch, and be "normal" and love Ian for as long as he will stay with her. Everyone leaves her eventually, after all...
