~ I put my foot down and drive to the first corner. The track is always wet at the start of the day as the water truck is able to go out and keep it that way, but by the end of the day all the water will have been used so it will be bone dry and that's when the real fun begins. I pull the hydro, the chrome shaft that's connected to my rear brakes, to lock the rear wheels so I can initiate a drift. I feather the throttle accordingly as to keep the car sideways and continue onto the next corner... This is it. Nothing else matters. Just me, my car, their car and the sound of tyres tearing rubber against the drying tarmac... ~ ~ "Laurie, you got something..." He trails off as his thumb brushes my lips enough to turn my head towards him. Before I know it, the space between us is closing and my body is frozen. His lips draw ever closer to mine and involuntarily, my back arches so my mouth presses against his. My lips burn with passion as I find myself unable to stop kissing him. My rational side kicks in and I pull myself away from him. What the hell am I doing? ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Laurie Williams is a wreck of a woman. Alcoholism and not giving a fuck are her two main personality traits. However, when her tightly knit friend group of girl car enthusiasts find a car club to become a part of, she starts to come to life. For a moment, she leaves her old life behind. But it always finds her again. On a downward hill spiral from the beginning, she loses friendships, relationships and even herself. The only thing keeping her afloat is her love for cars. Being alone? Check. Being afraid? Check. Being abused? Check times 3. Honestly, my life wasn't this bad before, not until I ended in foster care... SIKE! My life was always bad. From the moment I was born, I lived with an abusive father who blamed me for my mother's death, and even I couldn't disagree with him. Here are a few questions I am constantly asked: 'Do I do well in school?' No, are you kidding me? The only subject I'm good at is Visual Arts. 'Do I have a kind and caring family?' No, I don't think I do. 'Do I have anyone who cares about me?' No, I'm a loner and socially awkward. 'Do I have privileges?' No, if you haven't understood the message yet, I live in an abusive household. Now, you might ask if there are any questions the answer is yes. I'll give you some. 'Do I want to die?' Yes, I sometimes do. 'Do I feel alone in this world?' Yes, always. 'Do I get a beating every day?' Yes. *** This is Amara Williams, a 13 year-old with average grades and no friends. Lucielle Andrews thought for a good portion of her life, that she knew what her goals were. Graduate. Get married. Have kids. Be a better family than the one she grew up in. With her drug addict of a mother, and her sociopath of a father, her life was no where near easy. She wanted to be the mother her own never was, and marry a better man than her father was. That theory changed when she came home from school to tons of sirens, officers and medics. She was newly fourteen, and very confused as to why she wasn't permitted inside her own home. She never got to enter that house again. She was taken to the police station, and fell asleep in an officer's office chair that night. When she woke, she was told that her father was going away for forever, since he was guilty of six homicides, including that of her mother's. The FBI officers that had been at her house had told her this, and how they were gonna get her stuff and get her to her aunt and uncle, whom she never knew she even had. She was put on a flight to Virginia, and finished growing up there with her aunt and uncle. Once she graduated high school, she knew she wanted to go school for psychology, minoring in criminal justice. Her guardians thought the combination was odd, but she knew exactly what her plan was. Her plan was to catch people like her parents. And be the FBI agent to help out a child who was going through what she had. That's no childhood. Soon enough she'll be on her way to Quantico, but for now, an internship will suffice. -•- NOTE: This book takes place in 2008 around the fifth to sixth season of Criminal Minds.
