**The fates of a barista, a dancing criminal, and a deadly stranger become tangled in a world where the apocalypse is old news**
All Mads Capot wants to do is run her coffee shop in peace and to be able to pay her bills until the next wave of intragalactic tourists arrives. But when a mysterious green-eyed stranger walks into the shop and seems to be the answer to all her problems, she's immediately skeptical. And her instincts have always been good . . .
Luc is mysterious and adaptable, a drifter with a dark past and a score to settle with one of the galaxy's most infamous criminals. When he crosses paths with Mads, he inadvertently draws her into a complicated world of outlaws, renegades, and ancient curses existing on the fringe of a destroyed world. Can they put aside their differences to survive, or will they end up as two more nameless corpses?
Inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, Baz Luhrmann films, 2000s pop punk, club bangers and a dash of Star Wars, "The Last Coffee Shop" is a science-fantasy adventure for fans of Firefly, White Collar, fairy-tale retellings, and Diana Wynne Jones.

Alex Thompson was due to marry her high school sweet heart Eric Ramirez. Period. That's it. It's about as exciting as her life ever got really. She had a job, a good job but an unconscious reality was that she was bored. She had her back blown out once every three months, if that, and an overbearing mother who made her life hell. *enter Mitch* Eve 'Mitch' Mitchell. An outgoing, strong minded, independent, raging homosexual, lover to all, charming British soul. They meet by accident after a tough day at the office for Alex. A mistaken identity was all it took for a tiny little kiss. A moment blown all out of proportion for the Christian-bred Miss Thompson and her life turns more miserable than she anticipated for every time she turned around...Mitch was there behind her. Something about Mitch was new and fresh and her soul was just what Alex needed (little did she know). Secrets from the past are brought to the surface. A sad ending to a young lady's life. A realisation that family isn't always blood related. Alcohol isn't a medicine. Violence isn't a key. Hearts were never meant to be broken. Two things to take away: you never know what is going on in someone's head and the most important thing...you never know what happens behind closed doors. So when he finally gets the chance to meet the man he once loved yet again, he won't pass up the chance to protect him. He won't let him go again, even if it means fighting until his very last breath. --- This story is an AU where everyone's "human", just with food names. There are actually quite a few nonhumans/monsters, both turned and born. Madeleine is a turned creature, given wings and feathers by the Divine. There are many other such creatures, including Espresso. If that makes you uncomfortable in any way, you've been warned. You don't have to read this, you know. Also there's gay (of course) and they're both transgender because I said so and I wanted to make Madeleine suffer period cramps. Don't be homophobic. I probably won't be adding smut to this one (though if I make a book 2 there might be), so don't get your hopes up. --- This cover was done by me in watercolor! I'm not bothering to add words to it.
