Laika, a fourteen year old astronomy enthusiast, who when asked could name you all the stars in the sky is moving to Alaska. Her new home is a town trapped in an endless winter, with mountains covered with snow and lakes frozen over, the natural beauty of the town seems to stun her while everyone she meets takes it for granted. Laika suddenly realises that the only good thing she is getting out of this move is a chance to see the stars, something she barely got to do against the brightness of the city lights of London, against that she has to start a new school trying to fit in, which is hard when your personality is as cold as the snow on the ground, survive against frequent blizzards and come to terms with who she really is, asking questions about herself she had never thought of before. It seems like the stars are the only thing she has as an escapism towards her new life and the only thing she has to keep her from running away, or is it?

Primed: A Kayla Madison Story by MelissaHamilton2
37 parts Complete
Kayla Madison is a normal-ish sixteen-year old whose main desire is simple-make it through high school without embarrassing herself too much in the process. It doesn't help that she's being followed by dark figures no one else sees. When a man with incredible speed, unbelievable power, strange old-fashion clothes, and an obnoxious personality threatens her life, she discovers she is a rare "two-worlder" -a person with one parent from Earth and the other from Earth Prime. She escapes another attack by jumping through a portal to the alternate dimension, much to the chagrin of her protector. As if managing without electricity, cars, and phones on the more Edwardian world weren't enough stress; she finally meets her long-absent father, a scientist in the top-secret field of Trans-Dimensional Travel. Things get more complicated when she realizes her best friend's father, or rather the Earth Prime version of him, might have been the person that orchestrated the assaults. ___ Thanks for reading! I've been working on this story for quite a while and have drafts for a five book series. I would love feedback on what I can do to make it a stronger story. If there are things you enjoy, let me know (so I don't change those parts.) :) All portions of the story have been submitted and final chapters will visible by Nov 18, 2023. Among other degrees, I have my MFA in creative writing. I am a science teacher when I am not writing.

Snow

98 parts Complete

After an apocalyptic event that thrusts the world into a new ice age, Calestia - a 17-year-old girl with a strong will - must learn to survive on a land infested with gangs, guns, and distrust. ***** Nobody knows what day it is anymore. Nobody knows the month, the day of the week...and the only way to tell time is by the slight change in the color of the sky from grey to black every twenty-four hours. If a day even is twenty-four hours anymore. The planet is dead. The people are dead. Snow falls down upon piles of bodies like the ash of a volcanic eruption. Except, the snow doesn't stop. It never does. It continues to fall and fall until you wonder if it is even possible for another flake to come down and land silently in your hair. But it does. They do. There are few survivors of what the remaining have started to call the end of the world. The Apocalypse. Few who are still brave or scared of death enough to face the torture that is living. I am one of those survivors. Book One of the Snow Series Highest ranking: #3 in Sci-Fi Watty's Shortlisted
