Set in the 1920s, Todd Mills is the son of a dirt-poor war veteran. He runs away at the age of nine and makes do on the streets. He dreams of himself in mansions and tabloids. He travels to Los Angeles and learns to become wealthy. In his journey, he meets Marlon Ballard, an extremely affluent gangster. Ballard takes Todd under his wing and shows him the glory of robbing banks and making shiny profits.
