Laelia currently is being held in an unnamed Illyrian War Camp after crossing from Day Court. She was immediately named prisoner by Rainer, the violent and abusive eldest son of the Warlord. He has taken a special interest in Laelia, buying her survival for as long as he keeps his interest, which she had successfully done for 5 years. Laelia understands she is playing a game, and if she loses, she will die.

But everything changes when Cassian, General of the Night Court, is due to stamp out rebellions and rumors of Hybern sympathies in the Mountains. When he arrives, he finds a High Fae female broken at the hands of his rival since the Blood Rite. And he cannot help but intervene.

However, the peace they've known thus far is almost at an end. For months, Estelle has suffered nightmares of the events that took place on Ramiel, and they are growing worse with each day that her questions remain unanswered. It is time for the mystery to be unraveled, but what will it cost to do so? There is more at stake now than either of them could have imagined. Are they facing an isolated threat, or is it possible that some ancient foe lurks within Prythian's borders, waiting for her chance to strike? Life in the Night Court is difficult for Lysander Marzena between juggling his official duties and personal affairs. As a high-ranking Illyrian warrior and a member of Rhysand's Inner Circle, Lysander takes his responsibilities very seriously. Sometimes too seriously. His family often has to remind him to take a break and focus on himself for a change. What they don't know is that he purposefully neglects doing so. If he did, he would be alone with his thoughts and forced to face many truths he's been trying to avoid. But unbeknownst to Lysander, a problem has arisen in the Winter Court, and from it, something will come to bring an end to life as he knows it. Or rather, someone.
