Everyone in Merry's village is devoutly faithful to Lord, the god that walks amongst them. But Merry can't bring herself to feel that same unwavering loyalty, and often finds herself asking questions which leave her feeling like a heretic and an outcast. This is why she is shocked to find out that she's been chosen to become a member of the Blessed Ones, an elite group of citizens invited to pray with Lord inside his home, after being blinded of course. As she goes through the initiation process her relationships are tested when she can no longer keep her questions and doubts to herself.
