Legend has it that long before the Aan ever existed, there was a civilization even more powerful. Is even more powerful, to be precise, for the tales and fables all say that they are still out there, lurking in the distant corners of the world. They are the most powerful people to ever exist; each has their own special power, their own special ability. All are perhaps no less than gods; all are nearly omnipotent and omniscient.
Most fabled are, of course, the man of ice and the siblings of the stars. Legend has it that the man of ice single handedly fought off a phalanx of brutal and merciless warriors, hell bent on massacring them all. He saved them all on his own, driving away the savages with triumph. They say he is still out there, tucked away in his frozen abode far, far away.
Yet the siblings of stars were ever so grander than he—stories say they're each composed of stardust and shadows that swirl in a perpetual dance with the light within in them. The three are said to be even above gods themselves with powers so grand they are beyond description. According the legend, they can rewrite fate itself and control the very life of anyone they choose.
And here begins our story.
Within the people of Aan, a few are convinced that some way, somehow, they will find these people. They plan to journey far and wide to find them: the fabled man of ice and his legendary descendants.
But before this happens, an accident occurs. Something goes wrong. A youthful, promising girl named Ether goes missing. The Aan are frantic, unsure of what has gone wrong or what has happened to the poor girl. Their leader, a man named Tolyn, takes charge. He calls a meeting of the Aan one day, and afterward, all go about their daily lives again. It's as if nothing ever happened.
When Ether returns after this event only a month later, she discovers not a single person recognizes her.
And with that, everything that Ether knew suddenly becomes a lie.
